Canton MIWinStyles is a Windows program designed to transform Windows, increasing productivity by improving the end user experience.  By talking to other programs installed on a Windows computer and providing a set of user-defined customizations, WinStyles essentially alters or the entire computer interface. It does so by using many Windows customization programs together in unison, and applying “suites” of skins, icons, and themes. Unlike other Windows customization programs, which customize small individual parts of Windows, WinStyles provides an intuitive way to change the entire system at once; by acting as a front end to all of the popular Windows customization programs, WinStyles greatly simplifies the user experience.  Confusion is replaced with power and flexibility.

The entire user interface experience can be transformed easily; by simply locating and downloading any WinStyles theme, end users can completely customize Windows.  For example, a “Dalmatian” theme could be used by WinStyles to transform the desktop and applications to have a complete Dalmatian puppy look. When applied, WinStyles would then talk to the various elements of the Windows Operating System to apply the transformation.  It would talk to WindowBlinds to change the title bar to have black and white spots, then change the wallpaper to have a Dalmatian on it; it would talk to IconPackager to change the icons to a Dalmatian theme; to ObjectBar to change the Start bar to have black spots on a white background; to the Windows Media Player to change it to have a Dalmatian skin; to CursorXP to have a mouse cursors that are shaped like Dalmatian tails.  Finally, WinStyles would talk to DesktopX to change the desktop to have a Dalmatian theme—completing all customizations easily and quickly. The user is left with a fully functioning system, altered to the “Dalmatian” appearance.  The process is further simplified by WinStyles by locating and obtaining any necessary files that may be missing, and installing them for the end user prior to any appearance alterations. In this way, users do not have to know which programs do what, WinStyles takes care of it all.

WinStyles is easy to use, and it is also easily accessible; WinStyles adds itself as a tab in the standard Windows display properties dialog so that it’s easy for users to access their suites. Creating one’s own complete customization suite is also very easy. Once a user has their desktop just the way they want, WinStyles can save it as a “suite”. These suites can then be distributed to other users. Stardock has had some early success with WinStyles in corporations for this reason – companies distributing a single unified corporate desktop.

WinStyles can even control individual programs right from the WinStyles display properties dialog. This brings a consistent way for users to control the way Windows looks and feels. No more having to figure out where in Windows Media Player to change the skin or figuring out how to change the Start bar in ObjectBar or using a different skin in WinAmp.

WinStyles is available as a free download. It can be registered on its own for $10. It is also part of Stardock’s Object Desktop which includes full versions of most of the programs people use to customize Windows.
